profile : STEVE BUG




In 1991 Steve Bug starts his DJ-career at the Bremen-based Club Maxx where he organized some own events and parties. Shortly after that he became resident alongside Jens Mahlstedt at regular Friday nights.

1992 sees his first appearance at Berlin’s Loveparade In 1993 Steve Bug and Jens Mahlstedt establish the sundays T-Dance at Modernes in Bremen. Also Steve starts getting into production, teamin up with Henry Stamerjohann and Gerrit Frerichs.

1994 is the year for Steve Bug’s first releases on Hamburg-based Superstition Recordings. Also he finally moves to Hamburg and builds up his own equipment-park.

In 1995 his first solo-productions are released and shortly after licensed to Rising High.

1996 – first releases on Steve Bug’s freshly founded label Raw Elements appear on the market, followed by a 12″ for Felix Da Housecat’s Radical Fear-imprint.

1997 sees the release of his first longplayer “Volksworld” and also his first appearance at Germany‘’s biggest rave event Mayday.

With releasing the compilation “Da Minimal Funk” on Raw Elements featuring tracks by Dr. Rockit, Vincenzo, Les Rhythmes Digitales and many more he defines a new genre of electronic dance music.

1998 Steve Bug finally stops working on Raw Elements but establishes two new platforms for vinyl releases “Dessous” and “Poker Flat“. “Da Minimal Funk Vol. 2” is released in May 1998 on Raw Elements.

In 1999 “Loverboy” becomes a massive wordwide dancefloor success which leads to Steve Bug’s first tour in Australia.

Apart from this he and Vincenzo team for their project “The Discowboys”. Together they release a on Dessous Recordings as well as on the spanish label Minimal Funk.

2000 – Cocoon Booking takes care of managing Steve Bug’s schedule now. Not long after that his Mix-Compilation “Steve Bug is pressed.

The Flow- is released on Cocoon Records. “The Other Day” is his first longplayalbum on Poker Flat Recordings.

2001 sees the international breakthrough for Steve Bug with gigs allover the world, e.g. tours in Canada, USA, Japan and Australia.

Productionwise he takes of remixing artists like Robotman, ADNY a.k.a. Alexi Delano, Antonelli Electr. feat. Miss Kittin and others on highly reputated labels like Raum…musik, Italic, Turbo Records and his own imprint Poker Flat Recordings.

In 2002 Steve Bug releases his new album “Sensual” and teams up studiowise with Richie Hawtin for a release on Minus as well as Common Factor for a 12″ on Tactile.

Bookingwise Escorteaze takes care of all Poker Flat Artists now and sets up the successful Poker Flat World Tour.

2003 is the time for a second appearance at Mayday as well as diverse festival- and clubgigs all over the world.

Apart from the third sequel of the great „Minimal Funk“- compilation (which was based on Raw Elements) on Poker Flat he comes up with remixes for Freaks, Jeff Samuel, Pascal F.E.O.S. and more.
