TODDLA T feat. Andrea Martin – Magnet

Thomas Mackenzie Bell (born 22 February 1985), better known by the stage name of Toddla T, …

… is an English DJrecord producerremixer and composer from SheffieldSouth Yorkshire, England.

Toddla T was raised in Sheffield where he attended King Edward VII School.

Toddla T started DJing at the age of 14 in the clubs and bars of Sheffield and by the age of 16 had left school to pursue a full-time career in the music industry.

His stage name was given to him by the older Sheffield DJs who influenced him and was used to indicate his relative youth.

He has a son, born in May 2013, with his partner, fellow BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac; the couple later had a second child, born 6 January 2017.

Toddla T’s first album, for 1965 Records, encompasses hip-hop, electro, garage, dancehall and house and was released in May 2009.

The major collaborators were Serocee and Mr Versatile.

The album also features further collaborations with Matt Helders from the Arctic Monkeys, …

… Benjamin ZephaniahRoots ManuvaTinchy Stryder, Joe Goddard and Hervé.

He has created a mix album for the London nightclub Fabric.

Toddla T is currently DJing in clubs and festivals throughout the UK, Europe, North America and Australia, …

Now, in 2017, Todda T is preparing to release his third full-length album, ‘Foreign Light’.

“It’s the album I’m most happy with, by a long shot,” he says.

“I didn’t want too much outside influence so I got Benji B to help me oversee the project and be a second ear, and I didn’t play it to anyone else.”

With each release, Toddla T brings in wider and wider influences, revealing more and more of the myriad sounds …

… that have shaped him since his childhood – and ‘Foreign Light’ is no different.

The album, which he says is more cohesive than the last two, centres around Andrea Martin’s vocals.

Besides Teezy himself, Andrea has the largest input on the album.

The two met after his good friend Switch introduced the pair.

Very soon, she became the focus of the album.

“Even though it’s all over the shop, stylistically,” he says, “Andrea’s the glue that holds the album together.”

Despite that stronger R&B influence, Toddla still manages to incorporate a tonne of other sounds, and plenty built for the club, …

… with features from CASisDEAD, Wiley, Stefflon Don, Coco, Silkki Wonda, and Addis Pablo (son of dub legend Augustus Pablo).

“Reggae is my life and it comes through in the radio show and it comes through in the music, …

… but this album is a representation of my wider tastes that people might not know me for.”

TODDLA T feat. Andrea Martin – Magnet

‘Cause your love’s like a magnet
And I can’t get rid of you boy
‘Cause I’m out here filling this joy
With sadness
You killed my sadness
‘Cause your love’s like a magnet
And I can’t get rid of you boy
‘Cause I’m out here feeling this joy
With sadness
You killed my sadness
‘Cause your love’s like a magnet

Silly of me to you ever take your time (One way)
Silly in love to ever blow my mind (One life)
Silly your love to ever take my time

‘Cause your love’s like a magnet
And I can’t get rid of you boy
‘Cause I’m out here filling this joy
With sadness
You killed my sadness
‘Cause your love’s like a magnet
And I can’t get rid of you boy
‘Cause I’m out here filling this joy
With sadness
You killed my sadness
‘Cause your love’s like a magnet

Silly of me to you ever take your time (One way)
Silly in love to ever blow my mind (One life)
Silly your love to ever take my time

‘Cause your love’s like a magnet
And I can’t get rid of you boy
‘Cause I’m out here filling this joy
With sadness
You killed my sadness
‘Cause your love’s like a magnet
And I can’t get rid of you boy
‘Cause I’m out here filling this joy
With sadness
You killed my sadness
‘Cause your love’s like a magnet
